Urban Question
Beyond the basic design required to inhabit their new home on Governors Island. Can the planning, design and construction processes allow life and learning to be encouraged while enhancing the environment above and below the surface of the water?
Urban Answer
5 sustainable options were developed for a waterfront presence for the Harbor School to prepare for their move to Governors Island in 2010.

The Harbor School is an Urban Assembly school of 500 NYC public high school students. The curriculum is devoted to Harbor life and excursions, therefore dependant on waterfront access.
Michael Fishman has been volunteering to and working with the school regarding their move in 2010 from Bushwick, Brooklyn to Governors Island as the first public use on the island. This includes communitng patterns for students and teachers, how waterborne transportation to school will help some and discourage others from attending the school. Issues regarding waterfront access onto and into the water.
